The first motherboard on our list is the ASUS motherboard. What makes ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus the best among these?

It may not be the most powerful motherboard but is still a solid pick for both gaming and streaming needs. And, the specs speak for themself, so let’s check them out.

Who is it best for?

As you can see, this motherboard has a lot of speed, but lacks storage, however, you can always add more storage by using a hard drive, and at the end of the day, performance is key, especially if you’re making a custom PC for streaming.

Also, because it is 3rd Generation Ryzen compatible, and Ryzen processors are usually better for multitasking than other brands of processors, you really can’t go wrong with getting this motherboard for your custom streaming PC.

If your aim is to make a gaming PC, this is also a solid choice, however, you can get a motherboard that can hold more storage for a bit of extra cash.

So if you’re someone who needs performance over storage, then you should definitely look into this ASUS motherboard.

Key Features

As with all motherboards, there are a lot of features to talk about, and with the ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus, there’s no exception.

First things first, this motherboard can support both AMD 2nd and 3rd Ryzen processors which are quite easy to find on the market and they get the job done for any streamer out there.

Second, this is a TUF gaming motherboard and if you’re familiar with any product that ASUS makes under this product name, you know that it’s made for continuous usage with lots of stability and durability. Gaming streamers will definitely like this.

Connectivity-wise, the motherboard holds a Dual PCIe 40.0m.2 slots and USB 3.2 both Type-A and Type-C ports. Also, your BIOS should be updated so that it can support the Ryzen 5000 CPU that this motherboard is compatible with.

Lastly, it has 4400 MHz memory speed, DIMM type RAM memory and can hold 128GB of memory, and has 4 memory slots.

So overall, it’s a great choice, and you won’t regret getting it.

Up next is one of ASUS’s biggest competitors is MSI and we have a few motherboards from this brand on the list, the first one being the MSI Z490-A PRO ProSeries ATX.

But let’s see what the specs make it different from its competitor.

Who is it best for?

As this motherboard supports only Intel Celeron and Intel Pentium Gold CPU, it’s not going to be an ideal one for gamers who also do streaming simply because these processors aren’t as great at multitasking as the Ryzen.

The reason is that Intel CPUs don’t have as many threads used to divide the physical cores into multiple ones that make operations done at once work smoothly. However, Intel CPUs are known for their performance and speed, which is what you need for streaming.

So if you want to sacrifice a few multitasking abilities by getting more stability of your PC processing power, then getting this motherboard is worth the price. I’m sorry gamers, you’re not the only type of streamers out there.

Key Features

As I already mentioned, this motherboard supports both Intel Celeron and Intel Pentium Gold, and even though they aren’t the best Intel CPUs, they’re still widely available and still get the job done.

What’s great is that the motherboard has a 4800 MHz memory speed, which is quite high for a board in this price range.

Next, the motherboard has a Twin Turbo M.2 with M.2 Shield Frozr that works wonders with the SSD type storage as it can deliver 32 GB/s transfer speed making it ideal for streaming high-quality videos that put a toll on your data transfer.

The motherboard also has an Audio Boost for your sound card, dual power connectors for multi-core CPUs, 4 DIMM slots, but is primarily focused on the DDR4 RAM technology which you can also attach to the slots, and has 128 GB of storage.

It also has front and back case panel support for USB Type-C and IO ports making it easy to adjust it for most PC cases.

Finally, the board also has a crucial element – a heatsink design that doesn’t let your PC overheat if you use it for long periods such as when streaming.

Pros
  • Fast operations
  • Has 4 memory slots
  • Compatible with most standard ATX PC cases
  • Sound Boost and Core Boost technologies
  • xtended heatsink design

Gigabyte is renowned for making some of the best motherboards for gaming and the GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Xtreme sure fits that category quite well.

I have to mention that this is the priciest board on my list, but the price is justified due to the components this motherboard holds.

You already know that the specs are just crazy. Let’s check them out!

Who is it best for?

Sure this motherboard costs like a whole custom PC, but if you get it, you’re basically set for the following 5 to 10 years in terms of gaming and doing pretty much anything with your computer, not to mention streaming.

The number of ports and storage on this board are crazy and given that it supports Ryzen 2 and 3 CPUs, there’s simply not a chance your streams will ever run smoother on other PCs that have lower-end boards.

You can’t even run Windows 7. After all, it’s so powerful, which, for most streamers, isn’t a problem because it’s been outdated for years now.

So if you’re willing to break the bank, but get the best motherboard for a custom PC that will fulfill your every need, then paying 750$ for this board isn’t that bad.

Key Features

Where do I start?

Just imagine having 1TB storage on your PC that you might not even be able to fill even if you’ve kept all of your 4K 60fps streams flat on your computer for the whole month. Trust me, you’ll have plenty of storage.

As mentioned, the board supports Ryzen 2 and 3, and even Ryzen VEGA Graphics processors that are some of the most high-end gaming CPUs and which bring amazing video quality and speed stability.

It has 2 memory slots for a Dual-Channel DDR4, Digital 70A 16 direct CPU power phases (14+2), both ALC1220-VB and ESS SABRE 9218 DAC audio codecs that amp up the audio to higher quality, and one PCIe 4.0/3.0 x4 expansion slot.

Next in line is the ASUS ROG Strix B450-F which is the first budget board I have on our list as it costs around 120$.

But don’t think that this board isn’t worth getting as for the price, it’s still a solid gaming motherboard.

But let’s see what the specs have to say because they are pretty amazing for such a low-budget board.

Who is it best for?

Even though this board is considered to be a budget one used for gaming, if you want to build a custom streaming PC and you’re not expecting to play the latest games, but rather just use it for web browsing and streaming, then it’s quite a solid choice.

What really makes the board actually an option is the AMD Ryzen CPU compatibility as it’s way better for multitasking, which you’ll definitely need if you want to only stream on your custom PC.

So if you don’t want to spend a fortune on your custom PC, but still want a solid board, then this might be one of your top picks.

Key Features

As you’ve already seen, the board supports AMD 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation Ryzen CPUs but will work best with the AMD Athlon which is quite easy to find on the web and is worth buying for standard computer use.

Things to Consider When Buying a Motherboard for Streaming

So now that you know which are the best motherboards on the market you can easily choose the one that you might think will do the trick, right?

Well, let’s not get hasty, and see what exactly you need to look for when you go out shopping for your new motherboard as they are quite expensive, and burning yourself by not getting the right one is not fun at all.

There are 4 things you need to consider before you buy a motherboard for streaming.

1. Chipset Types

The first thing you need to find out which type of chipset the motherboard has and is it compatible with your processor generation. And if you’re already getting a powerful board, you want to get a high-end CPU that can support all the power.

You want to get the specific motherboard for the processor model you have or vice-versa, otherwise one part just simply won’t work.

The best motherboard for gaming and streaming is the one that is compatible with 2 or more generations of processors because then you have multiple options and can customize your PC to your liking, or switch out and upgrade the processor later on.

2. Form Factors

Form factors or simply the sizes available of motherboards are important to consider because you want to get the right motherboard size for your PC case.

Typically, you can get them in 3 sizes:

  • ATX – Mid Tower, most common PC cases
  • ITX – Mini Tower, small and compact cases
  • XL-ATX – Ultra Tower, largest cases

So the size of your PC case determines the size/form of your motherboard, which makes perfect sense because you can’t expect to fit a 12” motherboard in a 14” PC case.

3. Motherboard Components

There are a lot of ports and components one motherboard can hold and if you’re new to building your own PC and just need it for streaming then you should know just a few of them that are essential for streaming.

These components include:

  • SATA ports – These are your storage drive ports such as SSDs, HDDs, and so on. As a streamer, you’ll need lots of storage and any good motherboard for gaming should have lots of these ports.
  • USB ports – There are simply not enough USB ports. You’ll need at least 2 but 3 or 4 is what you want to aim at.
  • PCIe slots – These slots are for your soundcards, graphic cards, SSD cards, and so on. There’s a variety of different length and data transmission measures and knowing which motherboard to buy depends on the type of these components you want to install onto it.
  • DIMM slots – Dual In-Line Memory Module slots are used to install RAM memory. The more slots your motherboard has, the more RAM you can install, but this also has a lot to do with the type of chipset you have and your operating system.

As you can already tell, the more components the board has, the better the overall performance, and it’s essential to have more options to play around with when making a custom PC especially for streaming.

4. Streaming or Gaming Motherboard

Because there are no motherboards made specifically for streaming, which is logical because the streaming industry isn’t so big that tech companies will purposely make such boards, your safest bet is to get a motherboard for gaming.

Sure you can get a motherboard for graphic design, music production, or even any standard motherboard you’ll find at your local PC shop, but gaming motherboards are ideal because they all have top-notch components that you need for your streaming PC.

You need a good graphics card, soundcard, a powerful processor made for multitasking, and lots of storage, and a gaming motherboard provides just that. So, if you’re both a gamer and a streamer, then it’s a win-win situation overall.

Conclusion

To recap, the top three motherboards for streaming are:

  1. Asus AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus as the best overall,
  2. MSI Z490-A as the best for streaming,
  3. GIGABYTE X570 as the best high-end motherboard.

I hope that we’ve made it easier for you to make the right choice when buying a motherboard for streaming and I hope that one of these motherboards for gaming will be your top choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
