Asmongold responded to Pokimane after she said that only “white people” did not understand Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show during the Super Bowl.
After Super Bowl LIX, Pokimane shared her thoughts on Twitch about Kendrick Lamar’s performance.
She remarked, “Only white people hated it. I didn’t want to say it. As a white-passing person, I didn’t want to say that… I’m just going to let that sit.”
She continued to defend Lamar, explaining that his performance had important messages aimed at highlighting Black History Month.
Her comments quickly went viral and drew reactions from several influencers.
Twitch star Asmongold was among them, describing her statements as “weird.”
He pointed out, “Only white people? She’s saying that only white people didn’t like the Super Bowl halftime show. I don’t know why people have to turn everything into a race war.”
Asmongold emphasized that many people simply do not like Kendrick Lamar.
He stated, “If Kendrick Lamar has 90 million monthly listeners, obviously not every single Black person listens to Kendrick Lamar. A lot of people that listen to Kendrick Lamar are not Black. What is this? It’s so weird, bro.”
His critique was not the only response to Pokimane.
Another streamer, xQc, also reacted strongly, expressing that she was “dumb as f**k.”
He added, “You’re dumb as f**k, shut up, you’re f**king brain dead. Don’t act like it’s people’s fault for missing the mark. Don’t blame the people who are watching.”
Following Pokimane’s comments, fellow streamer Adin Ross also chimed in with criticism. He questioned why she decided to make her statement about race.
Adin expressed his frustration during a live stream, saying, “Pokimane, f**k you. You’re just trying to win favor by targeting white people. You know it’s safe to speak out against them because there won’t be backlash.” He emphasized that bringing race into the conversation was unnecessary.
In addition to the backlash from Asmongold and xQc, others in the streaming community expressed their opinions. Streamer Kai Cenat claimed that Kendrick Lamar’s performance was enhanced with sound effects, suggesting that it was manipulated to make the audience appear more enthusiastic than they actually were.
Kendrick Lamar’s management team at Top Dawg Entertainment responded to Cenat’s claims, stating that his comments stemmed from his disappointment at not being allowed into Lamar’s suite at the Super Bowl.
The debate over Pokimane’s remarks has sparked discussions across various platforms, highlighting the intersection of race and entertainment during significant events like the Super Bowl.
