Streamer Ludwig Ahgren has become popular online after he spent more than $30,000 opening Pokémon card packs during a live stream.
On February 7, Ludwig opened every Pokémon pack that has ever been made and discovered a very rare Dark Dragonite card from a 1st Edition Team Rocket pack.
This card, which had not been officially graded yet, is highly valued among Pokémon fans.
According to PSAcards.com, if it gets a perfect PSA 10 grade, its price could range from $2,500 to $3,100.
Excited about finding the card, Ludwig shouted, “It’s the card! It’s the best card you can get! First-edition Dark Dragonite from Team Rocket! It’s a hit! Oh my god, it’s a hit!”
Ludwig mentioned that he intends to have the card graded professionally, recognizing its possible value while stating it’s in excellent condition.
“The corners look nice too. We’re gonna get it graded. We have no f**king clue. I say every card is centered, and they all look horrible,” he added.
Shortly after, he pulled a Haunter card from another pack, which could be worth up to $600 if graded PSA 10.
Even with the thrill of uncovering such rare cards, Ludwig estimated the total value of the cards he pulled was only about $3,000.
“I lose $27,000. The cards are only worth $3k,” he posted on social media.
Fans responded quickly to Ludwig’s post, sharing their views on his experience. One commenter noted, “If all the cards come back graded at PSA 10, you’ll only lose around $23,000, so there’s a silver lining!” Another added, “Honestly, I think luck was on your side if you managed to get back even $3,000.”
Some viewers expressed sympathy for Ludwig’s situation, with one saying, “It’s tough to watch you spend what amounts to my annual tuition on Pokemon cards.” Others remarked on the unique opportunity he had to open every pack available, expressing a mix of jealousy and admiration.
This livestream came at a pivotal time for Ludwig, who recently returned to Twitch after a three-year absence. After finishing his exclusive contract with YouTube in November 2024, he now streams on both platforms, reaching even more fans with his engaging content.
Ludwig’s card opening event not only delighted his followers but also sparked conversations about the value of collectibles in the gaming and streaming communities. Many are curious about the final graded assessments of the rare cards he pulled and what that might mean for collectors and the market.
