Kai Cenat is on track to break the Twitch record for the highest number of subscribers.
He is only a few days into his newest subathon and has already gained more than 160,000 subscribers.
Kai previously set the record with over 300,000 during his first subathon called Mafiathon.
However, he lost that title to VTuber Ironmouse, who raised the record to 326,000 subscribers.
Kai congratulated Ironmouse but soon announced Mafiathon 2, aiming to regain the title.
As of now, it’s day three of Mafiathon 2.
The subscriber counter is showing 167,000, which is more than halfway to the record of 326,000.
This is a great start, but the fast growth in subscribers might slow down soon.
Initially, a surge in subscriptions was expected.
According to TwitchTracker, 73,000 of his current subscribers are paying members.
More than 32,000 of them are gifted subscriptions, while around 24,000 come from Twitch Prime.
To break the record, Kai will likely need an increase in gifted subscriptions.
In his previous subathon, a lot of gifted subscriptions came from countries where subscriptions are cheaper, like Turkey.
A subscription in Turkey costs about TRY43.90, which is around $1.28 USD.
The start of this subathon faced challenges, including a swatting incident that paused the stream and temporarily banned Kai’s channel.
After the initial hiccups, Kai has managed to get the subathon back on track. So far, some guests who have appeared on the stream include Mirada Cosgrove and a TikTok personality known for portraying the Miles Morales character.
In addition to aiming for the subscriber record, Kai has made a charitable commitment. He announced that 20% of all revenue earned during Mafiathon 2 will be donated to building a school near Lagos, Nigeria. This charitable effort mirrors a similar initiative from Ironmouse’s recent subathon.
Fans can continue to follow Kai’s journey during this subathon on his Twitch channel. There’s also an update hub available for those who might miss any part of the event.
